either silver or gold laced, where as a male can be silver split for gold; meaning he has both gold and silver genes
present. He can then pass on either gene to his offspring.
Females can only be one or the other, so they can be represented in the following ways
S/- = Silver
s+/- = Gold.
Males on the other hand have two genes at this allel, so can be either:
S/S = Pure Silver
s+/s+ = Pure Gold
S/s+ = Silver split for gold
